The move back to Dallas, Texas.

What an update…for those that do know, no surprise. For likely many that don’t….We just moved back to Dallas!

After the chapter in the Northeast I’ve been thinking a lot about what that season meant.

When we left Texas, I had just sold my company. It felt like one of those rare life windows...if you’re going to change something, now’s the time.

What I wasn’t prepared for was what the Northeast would give me.

New friends.
New partners.
New investors.
New companies.
New perspective.
Same Texas accent I'm told, though.

I started building 51Ventures when we got up there almost selfishly - just as a vehicle to invest, advise, and stay in the game. But then I met some amazing people who poured gasoline on the idea. It stopped being a side vehicle and has started becoming something much bigger.

Pounding pavement in NYC every week walking into offices I once thought were untouchable.

Dinners on the 101st floor.
Panels with the skyline behind us.
Driving to Boston for meetings at the top of Prudential Tower.
Events in Philly.
Conversations that stretched me.

The Northeast became so much more than a stop. It became this proving ground. Forced me to step out of the 'normal' and 'comfortable'. Step into bigger rooms. And start realizing, it can be done.

Texas will always be home. Our families are here. Our roots are here. And now Dallas is the new HQ.

But the Northeast will always be part of the story and I’ll be there regularly.

PS….these are pics from our roadtrip, yes roadtrip, we drove from CT to Texas over the last week….it was controlled chaos at its finest.

For those curious….Started in Connecticut. Drove to NYC for the Yale SOM VC/PE conference (plug…for next year)
Drove from there to State College for lunch, then stayed in Morgantown, then to Charleston WV, then to Lexington KY, then to Nashville TN, then to Memphis TN, then to Little Rock AR, then to Dallas!
